Visa Recipient

  • LANG, Mme née BARABRAHAM

About the Individual

Madame LANG née BARABRAHAM owned a women's clothing store in Bayonne, France. In June 1940, after returning from the Spanish border at Hendaye, Aristides de Sousa Mendes stopped to warn Madame LANG that she must leave before the Germans arrived. He could no longer issue Portuguese transit visas, for by this time the Spanish border authorities had been notified not to recognize visas authorized by him. Madame LANG is said to have departed for Marseille mere hours before she would have been arrested by the Nazis.
